The Community Allotment is managed by the Rhymney Communities First Partnership and is located in the Rhymney Allotment site in the Northern end of the community.

The facility is open for the whole community, but it is especially used by community groups and the local Primary Schools who are able to use it as an educational resource…

Regular events also take place at the Community Allotment with a number of agencies in attendance, improving a number of factors for those who participate and the whole community beyond that… environment, health, wellbeing, healthy eating and education are all represented through this one project alone!

If you are interested in attending the Community Allotment, please let us know either by calling us on: 01685 843 597 or by calling into the P@THS office to speak with us!

Allotment Update 2011

Bryn Awel Primary School Sessions at the Community Allotment Plot

The children at Bryn Awel Primary School have been working their green fingers to the bone all year at the community allotment plot. Despite experiencing bad weather at most of the sessions the children didn’t let it dampen their enthusiasm for learning how to grow their own healthy fruit and vegetables.

During the sessions we learned how to sow seeds, look after our plants and create pleasant environments for the minibeasts – including the slugs and snails who feasted on our cabbages! We would like to extend a massive thank you to all the children (and teachers) who helped to make the community allotment plot a more productive space. The sessions at the allotment have stopped for the winter months but will resume in the spring term. If any parents or friends of the school would consider helping out at the plot to carry out any of the heavier and trickier tasks at the plot then please contact the Environmental Officer on 01495 222605 or rhiannon.perkins@groundwork.org.uk or call into P@ths on the High Street.

Wasting Away in Rhymney

Waste, fly tipping and litter are all noticeable and unpleasant problems in parts of Rhymney and we want to do something about it. We hope to improve our recycling rates and reduce flytipping and litter. With landfill space filling up and our streets becoming increasingly littered it is affecting everyone in our community and we need to do something about it.

If you are a keen recycler, have a waste problem in your area and would like a rant or could make any suggestions about how we can tackle these problems and improve recycling then we would love to hear from you!

All suggestions and comments will be considered. So please, get in touch using the details listed below and make your voice heard! Calling All Budding Gardeners!

Do you have an interest in gardening but don’t have the space or perhaps you like the idea of gardening alongside others for company and skill building? Would you like the opportunity to participate in a low level activity and increase your fitness? If so then the community allotment plot might be the space for you.

There is a large community allotment plot at upper Rhymney and space for budding gardeners to grow your own. The plot is being used by some community groups but there are some beds that haven’t been allocated. We anticipate that our planting and sowing will begin in earnest in the spring but we can work over the coming months to prepare the ground and familiarise yourself with the area.

If you are interested please contact the Environmental Officer on 01495 222605 or rhiannon.perkins@groundwork.org.uk or call into P@ths on the High Street and express your interest.
